{"id":1334,"date":"2020-11-04T14:47:40","date_gmt":"2020-11-04T14:47:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tghd.flipside-staging.com\/?p=1334"},"modified":"2023-03-20T16:43:57","modified_gmt":"2023-03-20T16:43:57","slug":"the-key-to-gut-health-plant-diversity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theguthealthdoctor.com\/the-key-to-gut-health-plant-diversity","title":{"rendered":"The key to gut health: plant diversity!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><span style=\"color: #ff006a;\"><strong>My top tip for looking after your gut health: aim for 30 plant points a week!<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"\">That&#8217;s 30 different types of plants across all 6 plant food groups: fruits, vegetables, wholegrains, legumes (beans &amp; pulses), nuts &amp; seeds, herbs &amp; spices.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ff006a;\"><strong>Why?<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"\">The more diverse, whole plant-based foods you eat, the more you&#8217;re likely to boost the diversity of the trillions of gut microbes you have (or the sciencey name Gut Microbiota, or what I like to call our GM)<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Why does that matter? Essentially, the more diverse your microbes are, the more skills your GM team has, and the more they can look after you&#8230; it&#8217;s all about the give and take, like in all relationships.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">They do so much for us.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Training our immune system.<\/li>\n<li>Making essential vitamins, hormones and more.<\/li>\n<li>Keeping our gut barrier strong.<\/li>\n<li>Helping to balance our blood sugar levels.<\/li>\n<li>Communicating with our brain and other organs.<\/li>\n<li>And ultimately helping to protect us against many diseases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\">That does NOT mean you have to cut out food groups and eat 100% plant-based for good gut health. No restrictive diets here! It&#8217;s about what you INclude, not EXclude.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">And if you&#8217;re sitting there thinking &#8220;but so many foods give me gut symptoms!&#8221; I promise it doesn&#8217;t need to be that way.
