{"id":1458,"date":"2020-11-04T14:34:44","date_gmt":"2020-11-04T14:34:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tghd.flipside-staging.com\/?p=1458"},"modified":"2023-03-20T16:54:47","modified_gmt":"2023-03-20T16:54:47","slug":"the-link-between-breast-cancer-and-whole-grains","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theguthealthdoctor.com\/the-link-between-breast-cancer-and-whole-grains","title":{"rendered":"The link between breast cancer &#038; whole grains"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"block-c78a220b23efe731d790\" class=\"sqs-block html-block sqs-block-html\" data-block-type=\"2\">\n<div class=\"sqs-block-content\">\n<p class=\"\">I&#8217;m diving into the latest studies on diet and reducing the risk of breast cancer&#8230;\u00a0 A big scientific review, including studies with thousands of women, found those who ate the highest amount of wholegrains had a lower risk of breast cancer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>How?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">It&#8217;s thought to be thanks to the abundance of beneficial plant chemicals (called phytochemicals) in different wholegrain cereals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Wholegrains are also a great source of fibre to feed your good gut bacteria, plus eating plenty of wholegrains has also been linked with lower risk of diabetes, heart disease and other cancers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">That&#8217;s certainly not to say that diet will prevent you from getting breast cancer &#8211; it&#8217;s complex and a lot of different factors, including genetics, play a role. But it does mean getting plenty of fibre from diverse sources and making the most of wholegrains is seriously worth considering.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">My top tip: try to aim for 3 portions of wholegrains every day (along with fruit, veggies, beans and pulses, nuts and seeds).<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>What are wholegrains exactly?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Essentially they are grains that are whole, the ones that haven&#8217;t been stripped of all their goodness such as jumbo oats, wheat berries, quinoa, whole barley etc.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>What about packaged foods?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">I have a helpful trick to determine whether the food really is wholegrain, coming in November&#8217;s Newsletter (sign up in bio).<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">And if you think whole grains are boring or less tasty, get experimenting!
